Chashma Rest House

It was May last year (2012) when me and Qasim visited Kundian, District Mianwali for a tour. The date was 18th when we visited Chashma Barrage and rest house located on the west side of the river. The rest house is built by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department. Chashma Barrage is a worth visiting place. River Indus is seldom wide as much as it is on this place. One of the largest canal Thal Canal is sourced from Chashma Barrage. Below are some pictures of Chashma Rest House.

Chashma Tour (Part III) – Bilot-Sharif-and-Chashma-Rest-House

January 7, 2013 1 comment

On Saturday 29th December, 2012, Noor Muhammad woke us up at around 11’o clock local time and brought us breakfast which included Half cooked Omelette (very delicious), Parathas, Yogurt, Pickle and Tea. We got ready meanwhile driver and Uncle Maqbool arrived. We left around 12:45 PM and reached Bilot Sharif at around 02:00 PM. I got my stomach unsettle a little so I became slower while Qasim and Hasnain got pace to reach the top to see the Kafir Kot ruins, Bolit Fort.

Image

Qasim and Hasnain took some very good shots of each other and as well as Fort. There was a silence matched to rare other occasions in my life. Only wind sound, some vehicle passing through the road 500 meters away and occasionally a voice of shepherd. I was like in some heavenly place apart from my weakness.

Cool wind was blowing and reducing the warmth of sunshine making it difficult to stay on the hills. We took the wrong path climbing the hill but on return we found easy path to return in no time. On the basin there was a superb view I captured of dates, bushes, pool and hill in the back ground. I love this sight the most in my whole tour.

Image

We took some pictures of ourselves, ruins and the valley and around 03:00 PM we left the place. We enjoyed Oranges, Bananas and Apple during the drive and hike. 🙂

We reached to Chashma Lake West Bank to Rest house, went down the stairs to beach (Yeah, I will call that a beach, because it was feeling like I was on the beach.), took some pictures, enjoyed the lake, the sun, the warmth and the cold. And returned back to home.

Next day we left for home. It was journey worth remembering and we enjoyed every moment of it. On the way back, we stopped at Sialmor South and took a couple of pictures. I know I am not looking good at all but we were heading home and we were supposed to be in not-our-best-looks. Thanks folks for reading such a long post (consisting of three parts). Chashma Tour (Part II) – Tour-to-Chashma,-A-Beach-like-feeling

January 6, 2013 2 comments

Rain started falling on the eve of Friday and we were restricted to our beds with heater on in the room and dry fruits in plates. Previously, Mamun (Uncle) Safiullah asked Qasim to fix his old laptop (IBM Thinkpad, i guess it was) loaded with Windows 7 and all the softwares not really needed and also Mamun needed Youtube to be browsed as it is banned in Pakistan by PTA. Qasim took really long time to download a VPN (don’t remember its name) and installed along with some Java plug-ins. We sat in drawing room and chatted with Mamun while Qasim was busy fixing the thing. Door was open and were feeling cold but It was nice to have some cold. 🙂

As soon as Qasim completed the fixation process, we moved to our room and Mamun left to his bedroom with his laptop to watch some MTA stuff. I went to bed straight away around PST 12:00 AM while Qasim started browsing YouTube and Hasnain started work. I woke up in morning many times, like PST 0500 and 0600 or so but it was still drizzling so I barely popped out my head from warm bed and popped in back. When I woke up in the morning at PST 0900 with the knock of Mamun, Hasnain and Qasim were still in bed. I left for a bath with warm water arranged by Mamun. When I came back to room, Qasim was awake and was waiting for only and lonely washroom shoes pair. 😉

Image

We got ready arround PST 1115 and left to Shoaib’s place. Weather was cold, yet lovely and yes it was drizzling as well. Mamun stopped near Green Lagoon Restaurant to give Hasnain a look of lake. Hasnain and me took some pictures.

Image

We reached at Shoaib’s house, picked him and left for Canal side Dhaba (Restaurant). There we took tea, went to have a look of Canal (Chashma-Jhelum Link Canal), the largest canal in Pakistan to my information in terms of water capacity.

Image

Drizzle started again and we rushed towards shaded sitting area of Dhaba. Meanwhile Anees Uncle joined us too on dhaba. On special order, fish was fried and we left no part of it but yet it was not as tasty as we were thinking but our empty stomachs asked for more every time we finished previous piece. Then we took 2 cups of green tea to digest the thing and also boost our body temperature.

Friday prayer time was passed so we decided to say prayer at Shoaib’s residence so we left to there. After Friday prayer, I, Hasnain, Qasim and Shoaib went to lake side and both uncles stayed at home.

And then started the madness time, it was drizzling, strong wind was blowing and it was almost freezing cold but yet we were passionate to take pictures. We tried every angle, style, shashka (fashion) and every possible view we could capture.

We spent full 90 minutes on beach like lake bank and when sun disappeared we came back to home, transferred photos to shoaib’s laptop, watched and gave comments on them.

Image

Special thanks to Auntie (Shoaib’s mother) who prepared Fruit chaat for us. I forgot to take its picture but it was really tasty, I took it two times because of dates in it. 🙂

Around 1930 PST, we left Shoaib’s home and went to Roadside Restaurant (don’t remember its name) and ordered Chicken Friend Rice along with Chicken Almond and daal mash & chapati. While waiting for the order, we enjoyed 2nd T20I between Pakistan and India which Pakistan lost by 11 runs but  with a good effort in chase of 192 runs.

Image

After dinner, we took special doodh patti (Milk Tea) with crushed Almonds and left for home. As soon as we reached home, we lightened up the heater and sat in our room with Mamun and have a very informative session with Mamun on politics, economy, religion and poetry. Around 1’o Clock Mamun left for his bedroom and we slept.

In the end, here are some awesome scenes we captured on lake and it will be unfair if I don’t show them to you. I hope you enjoyed the photo post and will wait for the part III, Bilot Sharif and Chashma Rest House. Don’t forget to comment.

Chashma Tour (Part I) – Lahore to Kundian

January 2, 2013 2 comments

Plans were made and cancelled one after another to tour Chashma Barrage on the western end of Pakistani Province Punjab, situated on Indus River; longest river in Pakistan as well as South Asia, 9th longest in Asia and 22nd longest in the World and 29th in world by average discharge. Finally I, Qasim and Hasnain decided to jump in the pool, yeah we decided to go to chashma to give it tribute of its vastness, loneliness, wilderness and of course beauty.

On Thursday, 27th December 2012, we started our journey from homes to Niazi Bus Terminal near Yateem Khana Chowk and had a light (not really) breakfast of pratha and omlate from the shop shown below.

Image

Then we boarded to Niazi Bus planned to leave terminal at PST 10:00, and guess what, unexpectedly it left on time, exactly 10’o clock on my phone. We were seated on last seats of the Bus, to our sorrow. 😦

Image

But we were happy to have a long wished tour and yes plan to eat river fresh fried fish on Chashma Barrage. Bus was not at all in good condition especially on the roads which lead to Mianwali and Kundian and Chashma afterward. This bad news was broken immediate after the bus started its journey on motorway as it started producing voices and giving us see-saw feeling. But yet it was comfortable due to controlled-access highway. We reached and passed through M1.

Image

Motorway was smooth and we felt no problem traveling on it. Near Sialmor, bus left the motorway and started travelling on Lahore-Sargodha Road. Lahore-Sargodha Road is being expanded from 2 lanes to four lanes so is under construction. Two way traffic was traveling and as it was not carpeted road so was bumpy on occasions. We enjoyed passing through Kinnow gardens and farms contained newly cropped wheat plants. 🙂

Image

And to our surprise, bus was not passing through Sargodha city, not even having a stop over at its historical terminal to board more passengers but were on Sargodha by-pass and it was the worst part of our whole journey, we forgot our tummies and stopped talking. We were feeling in sky constantly hitting by free-moving asteroids in space and jumping from one position to another. All our breakfast was digested immediately and we were in deep trouble. Then came Jhal Chakian and like all bad times, bumpy road passed away finally and took our breaths with it. River Ravi and River Chenab are not new things for us during journey but crossing River Jhelum from a bridge other than Motorway Bridge is rare thing for us.

Image

We passed from Khushab, Jauharabad, Quaidabad and Wan Bhachran to reach Mianwali as the bus was going to Isa Khel, KPK. We said goodbye to bus and passengers and took little rest in waiting room on bus terminal and used their below average restroom. Mamun (Uncle) Safiullah called us to reach Watta khel chowk, we arrived there and after about five minutes wait Mamun arrived. We boarded the car and continued our journey to Kundian. On Masoom Chowk, car stopped and we stepped out to have lunch in Masoom Restaurant and to our bad luck, it was the worst meal we took in our entire journey. Rice (Biryani) was overcooked and was looking like meal of sick people. Chicken Karachi was tasty and I noticed one thing different from Lahore restaurants, that they waste many flat breads. Waiters bring hot breads and unused breads in plates become useless after refilling. It should not happen. Tea was not good too, a lot of sugar. Mamun granted too many galian (abuses) to Restaurant Owner for such a bad meal and he gave a smile in return, he was such a Chawal (non-sense) guy. And then we reached home. Yes, we felt in heaven and immediately went to our beds to have some warmth and to give little rest to our backs. Qasim was complaining the pain in his lower back but Hasnain was excited about new place but don’t worry he was hurt also. He is not made of steel and concrete. 😉

Hope you enjoyed this, Yes my hands are tired writing post and editing photos, making ready for this publicly accessible post and yes brain tired, remembering step by step procedure. I will write its next episode, Tour-to-Chashma,-A-Beach-like-feeling in  a couple of days. Till then Take Care. 🙂
