Lahore Bus Rapid Transit System started service


BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) Lahore finally inaugurated on 10th of February 2013. A day since the project was started being constructed eleven months ago, people started waiting for this day. Rs. 30 billion project completed in 11 months time including around 8 kilometers elevated track, and 27 stop overs.


Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish Vice Prime Minister inaugurated the service. While a large number of audience attended the ceremony. Many MNA’s (Members of National Assembly) and MPA’s (Members of Provincial Assembly) attended the ceremony as well. It was like festival in Lahore on inauguration day and people enjoyed with full energy the first Rapid Transit System of the country. Government College University Students wrote banners and placards in support of GCU Terminal stating that it will help university students to travel between university and their homes.


Sources say that on its first day of inauguration of the system, bus number 13 faced a minor accident when it hit the road side pillar and its left portion was damaged. No passenger was injured.
