ICC world cup glance

Cricket is fastly becoming the popular sports in Europe, Americas and Africa. Asia and Australia are already in this sports since long time.  If we consider Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere, Western Hemisphere only won two of ICC Cricket World Cups in 1975 and 1979, after that ICC World Cup Trophy remained in Eastern Hemisphere, first India in 1983, then Australia in 1987, then Pakistan in 1992, Sri Lanka in 1996, Australia in 1999, 2003 and 2007 and now India again in 2011 totaling it to 8 times.

If we talk team-wise performances, West Indies was marvelous in start of ICC World Cup trophy, but decline started from 1983 World Cup final and spanned till day, after 1979, they have not won a big tournament. These days West Indian Cricket Board is facing problems from their players like Chris Gayle and others that’s why they are not as much harmful as they were in seventies.

New Zealand are the chockers of semi final, they have reached many times in semi finals but not advanced from there. They were good team in 1992 World Cup but after that they faced problems and consistency issues.

South Africa is the team who manages to be in top teams of ODI cricket since 1992 when there ban was lifted, but they are worst chokers than anyone. They have chocked many times in semi-finals or quarterfinals. They could not march into final in 1992, 1999 as they failed to defeat their rivals in semifinal.

England is the only teams which have reached into finals and could not win a single title to their names. England reached into finals in 1979, 1987, 1992 but could not make it happen. They are good team but somehow they could not finish it well.

Sri Lanka was minos in 1992 but were champions just after 4 years in 1996. They won fabulously and they proved they are no more minos. Sri lanka managed to reach in final of 2007 world cup but Australia was too hard to stop them from being the champions for third time in a row.

Pakistan, world champions in 1992 have reached in final in 1999 but chocked worst in history perhaps. They were the best team in that world cup but they failed very badly. In 2011 World Cup, there were no hopes for Pakistan team to be in last 4 but they managed to reach in last four and unfortunately could not advance to final match.

India, world champion  in 1983 and 2011 are known to be the home of cricket for their huge number of fans. Cricketers are prayed by their fans in India. Sachin Tendulaker is one of the greatest batsman of all times belong to this team. He has many records attached to his name.

Australia has ruled the cricket world more than any country, record 4 times including a hat-trick in 1999, 2003 and 2007. Unfortunately, all these three times, they have defeated best three Asian teams in a row one after another.  In 1999 final, Pakistan was the victim of kangaroos, in 2003 india was the prey and in 2007 lions took off their hands from trophy in front of kangaroos.

1975, 1979 and 1983 world cups were hosted in England

1987 World cup was hosted jointly by Pakistan and India and final held in Eden Gardens, Calcutta

1992 World Cup was hosted by Australia and New Zealand

1996 World Cup was hosted by Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka with final held in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

1999 World cup was again hosted in England with some matches hosted in Holland and Ireland

2003 was the first world cup to be hosted outside Euro-Australasia in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya

2007 was first in Americas with several countries involved in the name of West Indies

2011 World cup was to be hosted jointly by Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh but March 2009 terrorist attacks on Sri Lankan team in Lahore restricted teams to visit Pakistan so ICC shifted Pakistani matches to other three countries.

2015 World cup is going to be held in Australia and New Zealand.
